INTERNSHIPS AND
CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Many of our participants have faced challenges in securing and maintaining meaningful employment, which can often lead to discouragement or disengagement. At Lumen, we take a proactive, hands-on approach to career readiness, helping individuals build interview skills and apply them in real-world job settings. We believe that employment fosters a sense of purpose, confidence, and personal growth. By building strong relationships with local employers, we’re able to maintain open communication, monitor progress, and provide timely support to address any challenges that may arise.
Lumen participants receive personalized support as they work toward finding and maintaining meaningful employment. Upon arrival, individuals engage in community service or volunteer roles at local organizations to explore their interests, strengths, and sources of motivation. As part of the daily life skills curriculum, young adults gain essential job-readiness skills, including resume building, completing applications, interviewing techniques, and professional follow-up. Lumen staff and vocational coaches work one-on-one with each participant to help identify job opportunities that align with their goals and abilities. Ongoing support is provided to monitor attendance, performance, and overall workplace success.
